Neuropsychological Evaluation

An evaluation generally consists of 3 parts. An intake, cognitive testing, and feedback.

Intake

Dr. Cecil will meet with the patient (and family if needed) to discuss the presenting problem(s), symptoms, and obtain a thorough medical, developmental, and psychological history. This typically takes an hour.

Cognitive Testing

Cognitive Testing typically involves a half day of in-person tasks. Some of the tests are paper and pencil, while others are completed on a computer or iPad. After the patient completes the tasks, the results are scored and interpreted. Over the course of 1-2 weeks, the data, along with information from the intake, are integrated and the findings are written into a report. The report will be provided to the patient for their taking.

Feedback

The Feedback session is the most important part of the 3-part evaluation. Feedback is provided on test performance, along with personalized recommendations. If there is a cognitive diagnosis, it will be discussed during this visit. The patient will be provided an hour long session to discuss modifiable lifestyle factors in which to alleviate or manage their cognitive symptoms. They will also be provided a digital copy of their report, to read or share as they please. Dr. Cecil will also provide referrals for any services deemed necessary or beneficial.
